Special thank you to Nikki for the suggestion.
Oh The Ravenous. I really tried to enjoy you. I really tried. But the build up was so slow. The story has already been done, and I found myself distracted by other things than this book. I'm really trying not to be harsh, and the story was a valiant effort. But not valiant enough. The story focuses on the Cane sisters: Juliet, Taylor, Anya, Mona, and Rose. Life for the Cane sisters is less than idyllic as their father is away serving in the military, and their mother is battling alcoholism and depression, which causes her to neglect her daughters. In addition, the sisters do not get along with each other, with the exception of Mona and Rose. In a tragic accident, the youngest Cane sister, Rose, dies causing panic within the Cane household. Grief-stricken and full of guilt, their mother resurrects Rose which in turn causes the teen to crave only human flesh. However, when their mother abandons them, the Cane sisters must resort to murderous means to keep their family together and their horrific secret safe. I really tried to enjoy this, but I found so many similarities to Let the Right One In, I just couldn't get into the story. In addition, the lead up to Rose's death, the aftermath, or anything eventual just bored me. It really dragged and I just could not get myself involved in this story. The relationship between Mona and Rose was decent, but not enough. I guess the one thing the story got right was making me despise the girls' mother, who was extremely selfish despite the disease she was battling. I have to give the book a 2.5 out of 5. Horror fans may be able to enjoy the book, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. |
