First, my apologies for the late review. As the country is slowly returning back to semi-normal after the pandemic left so much uncertainty, this Library Lady has been hard at work at her own library branch. Our libraries have begun limited browsing and computer use, so our patrons are slowly returning. It feels good to see them again. In the middle of re-opening, I decided to take a long overdue trip to Albuquerque to see my mother for Mother's Day (we're both fully vaccinated and followed CDC guidelines). But before I left, my friend and I went to see the new Demon Slayer movie to see if it was living up to the hype. What I can tell you is... IT ABSOLUTELY LIVED UP TO THE HYPE!!! For those who are not up-to-date with this amazing series, you can stream it on Netflix, Crunchyroll, and Funimation. The movie starts off where the first season ended, so if you're confused by what you see, definitely watch the series first. In this arc, Tanjro, Nezuko, Zenitsu, and Inosuke board a train to hunt down a demon that has killed multiple demon slayers. On this train, they encounter the Flame Hashiro, Kyojuro Rengoku, who is on the train for the same purpose. As soon as they board the train, every occupant becomes enchanted and fall asleep courtesy of the demon in order to destroy their spiritual cores, which will leave them in eternal slumber. The only one unaffected is Nezuko (due to her demonic powers), and she has to revive her friends to save them. Witnessing our main characters' dreams exposes their inner desires and weaknesses. Ranging from seeking approval, reuniting with loved ones, living up to their true potential, and to whatever the hell Inosuke was dreaming (you have to see it for yourself, I can't do it justice), you feel for each character and their plight. I definitely felt for Tanjiro (who still mourns for his lost family members) and Rengoku (who wants his father's approval). If you have read the manga, readers will be aware that there is a major death in the movie. I was not ready, and the following exchange between me and my friend: Him: You knew it was going to happen. Me *sobbing*: That doesn't mean that it didn't hurt. Let me have this moment to grieve! With all of the accolades this movie has been receiving (including being written in for Best Animated Feature category for the Academy Awards), I highly recommend checking out Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train. It's a solid 5/5, with its amazing action sequences with a dash of comedy. Zenitsu's and Inosuke's dreams were comedy gold.
